AKADEMIYA2063-FAO Partnership Launch

AKADEMIYA2063 and FAO will host a virtual event on December 15, 2022, to launch their partnership to strengthen data, technical, and institutional capacities for evidence-based policymaking and implementation in support of Africa’s agricultural and economic development agendas. Key areas of collaboration will focus on leveraging opportunities to promote Africa’s agricultural and economic transformation through joint research, technical assistance, capacity building, and outreach activities.

2022 Africa Agriculture Trade Monitor (AATM)

AKADEMIYA2063 and the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) convened a virtual session on September 27, 2022, to debate and promote the findings of the 2022 Africa Agriculture Trade Monitor (AATM). The 5^th AATM sharpens our understanding of African agricultural trade by analyzing regional and continental trade in agriculture and select value chains, with analysis of the nutritional content of African trade; the potentially transformative impact of the AfCFTA on the region’s economies and the evolution of intra- and extra-regional trade flows and trade policy of the ECCAS region.

AGRODEP Members’ Meeting: Research Funding Opportunities from J-PAL

AKADEMIYA2063 in partnership with J-PAL Africa, hosted a virtual session on Thursday, June 23, 2022, to share updates and planned activities for the AGRODEP Modeling Consortium in 2022-2023. Staff from J-PAL presented research funding opportunities for African Scholars including calls for proposals covering digital payments and digital identification, digitization in agriculture, and labor market topics. During the session, J-PAL covered the research scope for these three initiatives and offered some practical next steps for African Scholars who may be interested in applying to these research grants.

CALL FOR PAPERS: 2023 AGRODEP Annual Conference

The last AGRODEP Annual Conference was held in 2019 as an in-person event attended by more than one hundred researchers and actors representing several institutions and various interest groups. The 2023 Conference, slated for March 21-23, 2023, in Kigali, Rwanda, will bring together key actors from the AGRODEP network, including members and partners, to exchange on cutting-edge economic modeling and research tools, access to data sources, training, research grants, and networking opportunities to enable them to take a leading role in addressing strategic development issues facing Africa.

Insa Diop is a Research Analyst in IFPRI's Markets, Trade, and Institutions Division where he assists senior researchers in developing and maintaining AGRODEP's library of technical resources (technical notes, models, and databases). His research interests include measurement and modeling of market integration, econometric and CGEs models. Recently, in collaboration with Fousseini Traore, he has developed a paper analyzing the paradox of the supply elasticity of cotton in Mali. Prior to joining IFPRI in 2020, Insa worked at The Senegalese Institute for Agricultural Research (ISRA), particularly for the Macro-Economics Analysis Office (BAME). His tasks and responsibilities consisted of technical support for economic modeling, surveys design and data analysis. Insa is an economist and statistician engineer, who graduated in 2019 from the National School of Statistics and Economic Analysis (ENSAE) in Dakar, Senegal.
