Extreme Climate Deviations, Cereal Yield and Food Security in Nigeria

The focus of this study is to apply systems approach to gather and analyse data on weather driven trends on growth status of maize in Nigeria. The study focuses on application of daily and in the least periodic data. It utilizes agronomic, biophysical and meteorological data to determine the impact of weather changes on soil conditions and microbial activities in the soil and then through scientific analysis trace the impact on a stage-wise growth performance of the crops based on pre-established ideal conditions. This study is an initiative which may serve as model for tracing climate impact to larger agricultural practices, and other sector affected by climate change.
