Panel Data Simplified: See What Participants of the Panel Data Econometrics Training Are Saying

Recently, AGRODEP offered a training course on Panel Data Econometrics. The five-day training course, held on 24-28 September, was conducted by Rembert De Blander of KU Leuven and the Université catholique de Louvain.

The objective of the training was for participants to gain:

  • A more intuitive understanding of some important issues in panel data modelling and estimation, specifically the underlying rationale and implementation possibilities using open source (and possibly free-of-charge) software such as R. The basic idea behind this apprroach is to show that many of the problems facing applied researchers can be solved by not relying on standard (commercial) software.
  • An overview of some panel data models, with examples using a popular commercial econometric software package, such as Stata.
  • A more theoretical view of recent panel data material.

Eleven AGRODEP members attended this training course: Olayinka Idowu Kareem, Victor Afari-Sefa, Indranarain Ramlall, Godwin Anjeinu Abu, Marko Kwaramba, Gbadebo Olusegun Odularu, Mathieu Ouedraogo, Koffi Yovo, Tendai Gwatidzo, Eugenie Maiga, and Mounir Balloumi. These participants represent eight African countries and a wide range of interests and expertise. The training course was well-received by all participants; participant feedback will be very valuable in improving future training experiences of AGRODEP members.

Marko Kwaramba, a Tutor at the University of Cape Town, shared this feedback about his experience at the Panel Data Econometrics training course:

"I would like to thank AGRODEP for providing such an opportunity to learn and interact with African researchers in the panel data econometric course. The instructor's clear and unbundling of panel data econometric equations kept the course easy to understand and put into practice the various panel data methodologies."
