“Botswana has a fairly low life expectancy, with the average Botswanan living to 54 years of age (as of 2008). This figure has fluctuated wildly, having registered as high as 58 in 1980, and dropping to 34 as recently as 2003. The child mortality rate for Botswana has shown itself equally sporadic: it ranged from 84 per thousand live births in 1980 to 112 in 2003, and then fell rapidly to 57 in 2009. Less than one percent of Botswana is considered arable land, while its pastures amount to about 45 percent of its territory. A quarter of its people register as undernourished.”
