Job Posting: UNECA IDEP Research Officer

UNECA IDEP has an open job position for a Social Affairs Research Officer based in Dakar. The Officer will be responsible for the following: 

•Undertakes empirical research and analysis of trends development, and related policies, procedures, objectives and guidelines, relevant to IDEP’s mandate, recommends proposals for decision making
•Contributes to the translation of relevant research into teaching programmes for online and face-to-face delivery; Develops and coordinates research services and tools for the benefit of IDEP trainees; 
•Oversees the IDEP policy dialogue, the maintenance of database of policy researchers and monthly development debate series;
•Contributes to the organization and delivery of IDEP Technical Advisory Committee meeting;
•Contributes to the identification of research priorities in relation to the assessment of the recommendations of the alumni and training resource persons;
•Evaluates various research applications and the cost-effectiveness of research data services in relation to technology options;
•Processes IDEP research support outputs for publication and dissemination;
•Manages post-training discussion groups for the alumni of IDEP courses; Manages the IDEP visiting fellowships programme; 
Provide guidance, training and supervises general service and professional staff in the function;
•Assists in the planning, organizing and servicing of ad hoc expert group and technical meeting, policy dialogues, development seminars; drafting reports and preparing summaries of meetings, etc.
•Represents IDEP at international and other meetings; organize and participates in working groups, meetings, conferences, consultations with other agencies and partners on social and economic development related matters.
•Prepares/contributes to the preparation of various written reports, documents and communications, e.g. draft reports or sections of analytical reports, studies, background papers, briefings, correspondence, etc.
•Performs other related duties as required, including a variety of administrative tasks necessary for the final delivery of the research services.

Qualified candidates should have an advanced university degree (Masters or Doctorate) in economics, social sciences, or a related research-oriented field. (A first-level university degree may be accepted if combined with an additional two years of qualifying experience.) Candidates should also have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in economics or other development research disciplines, as well as knowledge of digital and e-learning resources and fluency in both English and French.
