Short Name
CountrySTAT Mozambique

CountrySTAT is a statistical framework and applied information system for analysis and policy-making designed in order to organize, integrate and disseminate statistical data and metadata on food and agriculture coming from different sources.

CountrySTAT gathers and harmonizes scattered institutional statistical information so that information tables become compatible with each other at the country level and with data at the international level. The main objectives are to facilitate decision-maker's access to information and to bind data sources that are currently spread throughout the different institutions.

The CountrySTAT approach is based on the application of data and metadata standards of FAOSTAT and GAUL (Global Administrative Unit Layers). Many countries have shown interest and are adopting it into their national statistical system. Furthermore, CountrySTAT is accompanied by a capacity-building strategy at country level to make the system sustainable in the long-term. CountrySTAT is networking with FAOSTAT and other sister information systems like FENIX.

CountrySTAT  Mozambique

The CountrySTAT is a web-based system that integrates national food and agricultural statistical information to ensure harmonization of national data and metadata collections for analysis and policy making. The CountrySTAT Mozambique was developed at the FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy in August 2008 under [name of the project] project by which funds were provided by the [name of institution funding the project]. Through the CountrySTAT system, the national statistics on food and agriculture of Mozambique will substantially improve in terms of quality, accessibility, relevance and reliability. In so doing, it will facilitate planning and decision-making by policy makers and analysts, particularly in the push to reduce hunger and poverty.

The CountrySTAT Mozambique shall serve as a complementary system to FAOSTAT. The CountrySTAT outputs are designed to load easily into FAOSTAT. This process or flow improves FAOSTAT's capacity to provide high quality statistical data at the international level. It also promotes exchanges of data within countries, between countries and between FAO and countries. Following the FAOSTAT framework, the CountrySTAT Mozambique shall have statistical data series surrounded by statistical metadata.

As envisioned in the development of this system, data from the CountrySTAT, will be uploaded into FAOSTAT. As such, country contributions to international agriculture and food statistics will arrive from only one source. The CountrySTAT will initiate quality control steps at the country level as part of the FAOSTAT data quality monitoring and evaluation system. The benefits derived from improved national statistical systems will be conveyed to FAOSTAT in the form of high quality data contributions from the countries.

The databases in the CountrySTAT Mozambique are organized according to major domains identified by FAO and under two major groups: CountrySTAT Core and CountrySTAT Sub-national. The core data consist of national data shared with FAOSTAT database while the related or subnational data are those with subnational relevance. This arrangement of CountrySTAT Core and Subnational data provide end-users with the possibility of “navigating” through the databases from either geographic or thematic paths.
