2015 Training Course - Applied Nonparametric Econometrics
27 Jul, 2015 - 31 Jul, 2015
IFPRI - Dakar

Overview

This course will expose students to the current practice of applied nonparametric methods. These methods are designed to overcome misspecification issues that dominate applied economic research. Using nonparametric methods can shed light on new issues that were previously hidden due to ad hoc model specifications imposed in the analysis. This class will provide hands on instruction to students in state-of-the-art nonparametric methods designed specifically to assist students with empirical issues that arise in the application of these techniques.

2014 Training Course - Applied Microeconometrics
17 Mar, 2015 - 19 Mar, 2015
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Overview

This course will provide participants an extensive range of up-to-date statistical and econometric techniques to analyze microeconomic data. In particular, a wide variety of microeconometric methods available in Stata will be covered, including linear regression, instrumental-variables estimation, nonlinear models for binary, multinomial, and censored models, estimation of average treatment effects, simulation and bootstrapping, and duration analysis. Special emphasis will be placed on the rationale of the models, the implementation of the methods and the interpretation of the results using multiple examples. Overall, the course aims to help participants analyze microeconomic data by applying different econometric techniques using a popular specialized software.

Applications for this course must be submitted by July 24, 2014.

2014 Training Course - Applied Panel Data Econometrics
10 Mar, 2015 - 14 Mar, 2015
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Overview

The wide availability of panel data presents unique opportunities for researchers. It is essential to understand the intuition and implications of the estimators and tests that are currently available to successfully take advantage of panel data. This course will focus on core panel data techniques, building a strong foundation before moving into more cutting edge methods that have been recently developed. The class will also discuss in detail implementation of panel data estimators and tests using the popular open source software R. The class will take place over five days to ensure maximum coverage of the core topics.

Applications for this course must be submitted by July 24, 2014.

2014 Training Course - Productivity and Efficiency Analysis
15 Dec, 2014 - 19 Dec, 2014
University of Pretoria - Pretoria, South Africa

Overview

When we look at firms, we notice that the output of each can vary tremendously. If we assume that the firms are using the same technology, then what can account for such disparate outcomes. Productivity and efficiency analysis engages in exactly this exercise, discerning which firms are doing the best with the limited resources they have, and identifying which firms are lagging behind. Productivity and efficiency methods are widely used by regulators to monitor the behavior of firms in a given industry as well as to track performance over time of firms. Given the broad array of methods, coupled with myriad applications, accessing this literature can be daunting. This class will introduce students to the fundamentals of productivity and efficiency analysis. The class will also discuss in detail implementation of these models using the popular open source software R. The class will take place over five days to ensure maximum coverage of the core topics.
